Professional Operator Development Programme

This award winning programme is designed to increase the health & safety awareness, knowledge, skills and behaviours and to provide structure to your personal development, training and assessment.

There are three learning methodologies on this programme

Formalised training sessions

Focused, engaging and thought provoking training sessions that are delivered twice every month throughout the duration of the programme.

Each apprentice will be required to attend the below workshops held at the Tarmac National Skills & Safety Park. The workshops will be spread out and delivered over 2 days per calendar month for the first 9 months of the programme. After completing the workshop the apprentice is required to complete their coursework back in their workplace.

After attending the workshop the apprentice can log 8 hours on their individual learning log and a further 6 hours once the coursework has been completed. This will only get accepted if the apprentice can describe what they have learnt.

E-learning & application of learning

Completion of staged e-learning modules alongside a range of regular repetition questions will help retain the learning.

E-learning is another part of our core delivery. We have 14 standard modules that have been mapped against the apprenticeship standard. These need to be successfully completed with the pass rate on the end of module test being achieved.

The apprentice can also access the full library of courses, selecting individual topics related to their working environment.

Once completed the apprentice can log 1 hour on their "off the job" learning log. However, This will only get accepted if the apprentice can describe what they have learnt

On the job learning

This is where the new operator learns how to do the job in the workplace. supported by training guides and the Operator Coach, ensuring this development is delivered in a structured and consistent manner.

Frequently asked questions

You will have reached Gateway once you have:

Attended and passed all of your workshops
Completed all of your coursework
Completed all 5 workbooks
Achieved your Vocational Qualification
Passed Level 1 English and Maths and at least worked towards and sat Level 2
Updated your portfolio in Learning Assistant
Had your 20% off the job hours have been met and approved

When this is all done, you have reached what is known as the Gateway, which is where you, your line manager and training manager will decide if you are ready to take the End Point Assessment (EPA).
