If you enrol onto a programme without full approval (including sponsorship letter from Training Services), Training Services will not be responsible for the course, and you may be liable for any costs incurred. 

Training Services will consider a number of things before approving/rejecting your request, some of which are : 

• Check to see whether or not there are alternative pathways available to meet your development need.
• Check to see whether or not Tarmac has a preferred supplier who can deliver your request.
• Timing 
• Budget
• Other BU specific considerations

• Line Manager
• HR Manager
• Budget Holder (Tarmac Level 2 Report, i.e. reporting into ExCom)
• L&D Team
• Final approval, including sponsorship letter from Training Services (L&D Team)

Note: obtaining these approvals does not guarantee that the request will be processed. See next question for more detail.

No, this is because:

If the provider you chose is blocked, you will need to unblock it before Training Services can use them. If procurement refuse to unblock the vendor for whatever reason, the request will be put on hold, until you can find an alternative provider. 

If the provider does not agree to Tarmac's Terms and Conditions, this means they cannot be set up on SAP, and therefore Training Services will not be able to pay them. In which case, your request will be put on hold, until you can find an alternative provider. 

This is why you cannot enrol with the provider, before obtaining full approval from Training Services.

The SLA is 1 month. This means you should  submit your application at least 1 month or more prior to your preferred start date for the course.

You are liable for repayment if one of the following occurs:

• If your employment terminates before you attend the development programme, but Tarmac already incurred a cost.
• If your employment terminates during the development programme.
• If your employment terminates within 24 months following the completion of the development programme.
• If you fail to successfully complete or withdraw from the programme before completion.

• Business Administration programmes (any level). 
• Civil Engineering or Construction programmes (any level).
• Customer Service and Sales programmes (any level). 
• Finance and Accounting at any level, including AAT, ACCA and CIMA.
• Master in Business Administration (MBA).
• Coaching and/or team development programmes.
• Any programme that can funded using Tarmac's apprenticeship levy (click HERE for more details) 

The Training Services team will help fund the request, once it is approved, the applicant will then approach the provider to begin the enrolment process.

• Books and study materials are not covered through this policy.
• Learners can agree with their Line Managers to purchase required materials and claim the costs back via expenses.

Approvals for study leave should be obtained from the Line Manager.  Approvals will only be for study leave with accredited colleges, universities and professional bodies and will normally be sanctioned in preparation for sitting an examination or completing a research paper.

The Employee may apply for a maximum of five days paid study leave per annum in addition to their normal annual leave entitlement. The study leave year is from 1st January – 31st December. In addition, paid time off will be granted to attend examinations (full working day).
